Cracks vs. Splits: Differentiating Asphalt Shingle Damage

The Causes of Splitting

When the temperature outside becomes cooler, the shingles contract while the joints increase in size. This constant cycle of temperature fluctuations can cause the adhesives on the upper surface of the shingles to deteriorate more quickly. This often results in diagonal splitting on the shingles.
