How to Avoid Damage Caused by Nearby Structural Fire

Curiously, New Jersey is home to quite a lot of fire stations because fire is quite a common occurrence in The Garden State. So, we deem it essential to dispense a few reminders on ways to avoid starting a fire, so to speak, or getting snared in the flames in case a fire is happening close to your home:

1. Clear flammable materials. There is a chance that wind may blow fire debris to your home so it is best to clear your surroundings from materials that may easily be ignited.

2. Be prepared. Be on the lookout and prepare your fire extinguisher or water hose just in case trees or bushes dangerously close to your home start to blaze. This will also be a big help to firefighters.

3. Choose the right siding. Your wall or siding is the first portions of your house that can succumb to fire damage. Still, prevention is best, so mind to always choose the right material, such as a more resilient vinyl siding in NJ. You see, the intense heat coming from nearby fires can damage neighboring structures, like this reported by nj.com:

A fire on South Clinton Avenue that drew a full first-alarm response late Wednesday night was under control in less than 10 minutes, officials said.

The front door of the vacant home showing smoke and flames from its second-floor windows, some boarded up, was open when the Trenton Fire Department arrived around 10:30 p.m., battalion chief Todd Fell said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A neighboring home also suffered damage, as its siding melted down due to proximity to the heat and flames, Fell said, but no one was injured.

Having a resilient siding can make your home more tolerant to external elements like the heat of fire. Make it a point to choose quality siding, like what we offer at Up and Above Contractors. We offer James Hardie fiber cement siding that is proven and tested to be more fire-resistant compared with other siding material. We are the preferred siding contractors in NJ simply because of our reputation for superior workmanship and impeccable customer service. Call us and get FREE in-home consultation today.
