Getting a Quality New Jersey Roofing Estimate

For many people, getting a roof estimate can be unfamiliar and even confusing, but it doesn’t have to be! Up and Above Contractors provides dependable New Jersey roof repair and replacement services for homeowners throughout Sussex, Warren and Morris counties. Over the past 20 years, we’ve established an estimation process that ensures you get the best service at a fair yet competitive price. When you schedule an estimate with us, here’s what you can expect.

1. In-home consultation. Our estimator will schedule a convenient time to meet with you at your home, and show up on time. Please allow an hour or so for him to inspect your roof for problems, and take measurements necessary to determine material costs.

2. Written estimate. Once he performs a complete inspection, the estimator will then prepare a written proposal that includes a description of the work to be done, material specifications, exact pricing, and an estimated completion date.

3. Estimate review. He will present the prepared estimate to you, along with samples, references and warranty information.

While Up and Above has already earned the trust of thousands of New Jersey homeowners, we encourage you to obtain estimates from multiple roofers and compare them. For your protection, you should obtain a written copy of every roof estimate and review the information before contracting any work to be completed.

Up and Above Contractors would be happy to conduct a FREE in-home consultation and estimate for your New Jersey roofing project, or for siding, gutters, windows, doors, decks and other interior and exterior projects. To schedule an estimate, please call (973) 531-4225 or fill out the Request a Quote form on our website. We look forward to meeting with you!

Get Warranty Coverage for Your Entire New Jersey Roofing System

Warranty coverage for shingles is an important feature, yet shingles are only one component of an integrated roofing system. Should there be a problem with the underlayment, or issues with attic insulation or a component other than shingles, a manufacturer won’t be held responsible. Unless you’ve installed the GAF Lifetime Roofing System, that is!

When installed by a factory-certified GAF roofing contractor, the GAF Lifetime Roofing System provides secure, long-lasting protection against the elements, backed by a comprehensive warranty that covers every aspect of the roofing system. To qualify for Lifetime limited coverage, a homeowner must install any Lifetime Shingle, as well as three or more qualifying GAF accessories:

1. Lifetime shingles. GAF offers you many great Lifetime shingle choices, including Timberline® shingles with Advanced Protection® technology. Install any GAF Lifetime Shingle and you’ll automatically receive a lifetime limited warranty on shingles and all qualifying GAF accessories.
2. Roof deck protection. Roof deck protection allows moisture to escape from your attic while providing an exceptionally strong layer of protection against wind-driven rain. It also lies flatter for a better-looking roof.
3. Leak barrier. This layer provides exceptional protection against leaks caused by roof settling and extreme weather. It’s an ideal upgrade at all vulnerable areas, including at the eaves in the north.
4. Starter strip shingles. This product saves time, eliminates waste, reduces the risk of shingle blow-off and may even help qualify for upgraded wind warranty coverage.
5. Cobra® attic ventilation. Attic ventilation helps remove excess heat and moisture from your attic that can raise your energy bills and cause premature aging of the roofing system, damage to interior paint and wallpaper, and even affect your health.
6. Ridge cap shingles. Enhance the beauty and value of your home, while guarding against leaks at the hips and ridges with ridge cap shingles.

Up and Above Contractors has earned the designation of Certified GAF Master Elite™ roofing contractor, which means we’re in the top 3% of all contractors in the nation, and qualified to install the Lifetime Roofing System. Call us today at (973) 531-4225 or click here to schedule a FREE in-home consultation and estimate.

Let Roofers in New Jersey Help You “Go Green”

A growing trend in the roofing and new construction markets is an interest in environmentally friendly, or “green,” roofing products. There are many categories of eco-friendly roofing products to choose from that can help improve your home’s efficiency, reduce energy costs and lessen environmental impact. Here are a few ideas:

• Solar roofing can significantly reduce home energy costs by generating electricity, in addition to protecting the home. Solar systems come in the form of solar shingles integrated into the roof, or panels mounted onto an existing roof.

• Recycled-content shingles are made from recycled waste materials, such as plastic, rubber or wood fiber. This keeps waste out of landfills and reduces the use of natural resources, which in turn lowers energy consumption and reduces pollution.

• 50-year asphalt shingles, such as the GAF Timberline® series, can last 2-3 times longer than a standard shingle, making them an eco-friendly choice. GAF Advanced Protection® shingles are specially engineered to be lighter and stronger than the average shingle, yet use less asphalt and limestone and require less fuel to transport.

• Reflective shingles, including the GAF Timberline® Cool Series, help to reduce temperatures in your attic during the summer, keeping your home cooler and cutting air-conditioning costs.

• Many metal roofing products include recycled material, and metal roofing can be recycled at the end of its life. Which brings us to another advantage: metal roofs can last up to 50 years, resulting in less material waste in the long run.

There are numerous eco-friendly roofing products to choose from, so compare your options carefully. Be sure to check with your insurance agent to see whether the product you’re considering will qualify you for a discount on your homeowner’s insurance! For more information about “green” roofing choices, or to schedule a FREE roofing estimate, call the best roofers in New Jersey: Up and Above Contractors!

Even in Winter, New Jersey Roofers Get the Job Done

Many folks believe that once cold weather arrives and snow has fallen, it’s impossible for New Jersey roofers to continue working. Not true! Even in mid-winter, you’ll still find Up and Above’s skilled crews hard at work, installing new roofs and making roof repairs throughout Sussex, Warren and Morris counties. Good roofing contractors offer their services year-round by taking extra precautions with materials and working with the weather. In fact, winter roof installation can be a good idea for homeowners! Here’s why you should consider having your roof replaced this time of year:

1. Cold weather only makes roofing problems worse.
Think your roof troubles will take a vacation until spring? Think again. Cold weather is linked to many problems that adversely affect your roof, including ice damming and curling and cracking in older shingles. If you had a leaky roof before winter hit, things will probably be worse once spring arrives, leaving your roof more vulnerable to major damage.

2. You’ll get a more competitive price.
Winter is often the best time to have a roof installed! When work volume is low, contractors are more willing to compete for your business than they would be during the warmer months. You’ll end up getting the same service for less, backed by the same warranties on workmanship and materials.

3. You’ll get faster installation service.
When there are fewer jobs on a contractor’s docket, you’ll get faster service. Your new roof could be installed in a matter of days, instead of the weeks or even months needed when New Jersey roofers are in highest demand.

If you would like to replace or repair your roof during the winter, don’t delay any longer! The Up and Above team knows how to protect our work and your home from snow and rain – without sacrificing quality. Call Up and Above Contractors today at (973) 531-4225 to schedule your FREE in-home consultation and estimate.

Is Fiber Cement Siding Right for Your New Jersey Home?

Fiber cement siding has been around for a long time, but recently has been gaining in popularity. This type of siding gets its name from its two main ingredients: Portland cement and cellulose fiber. These substances are combined with sand, water and other additives (depending on the manufacturer) to form a tough, durable and stable cladding material.

During manufacture, fiber cement can be formed into segments that mimic long wood planks. Panels are another option that covers a broader surface area per piece than planks, and are often used to mimic vertical siding. Most fiber cement manufacturers make a panel that resembles cedar shakes. Some also make individual shingles and various trim details.

Fiber cement siding offers a number of attractive advantages, including:

1. Durability. Fiber cement siding can last for decades. It is impact-resistant and unaffected by moisture, therefore it won’t rot and is unfazed by termites and other pests.

2. Stability. This kind of siding doesn’t expand and contract, which makes it a good base for paint.

3. Visual appeal. Fiber cement products do an impressive job of giving the appearance of wood siding without the inherent problems of wood.

4. Convenient. Products can be purchased both primed and primed-and-painted. Paint applied under factory conditions is likely to last longer than conventional paint applied after the siding is installed, resulting in a lower home maintenance cost.

5. Fireproof. Fiber cement offers the highest level of fire protection, an especially nice feature in areas prone to wildfires.

Up and Above Contractors is proud to be a certified James Hardie® fiber cement contractor, installing the full line of Hardie siding products on homes throughout the region. For more information about fiber cement siding, contact us at (973) 531-4225.

3 Important Benefits of Vinyl Siding in New Jersey

Even with the wide array of residential siding products available on the market today, one siding product nearly always gains serious consideration from our clients, and for good reason. Given the variable climate of the Skylands region, vinyl siding in New Jersey offers a number of important advantages. Here are three of the most popular:

• Low maintenance. Vinyl siding in New Jersey is extremely easy to maintain, which for most people is its biggest selling point. Vinyl won’t rot and cannot be harmed by mold or insects. It never needs sanding or painting, and fades very little over time.

• Performance. New innovations in its chemical makeup and improved installation techniques have made vinyl one of the best performing siding choices available. Vinyl siding can withstand most weather conditions without damage. Depending on the grade, it can last for many decades, and some manufacturers are now offering lifetime transferable warranties.

• Affordability. Another appeal of vinyl siding is that it’s less expensive than wood. Medium-grade vinyl costs around $1.60 per square foot installed, while mid-grade cedar clapboard can run around $4 per square foot even before trim and paint. In addition, vinyl siding is easier and faster to install than wood, saving on the overall labor cost.

At Up and Above Contractors, our crews have years of experience in New Jersey vinyl siding installation. No other contractor in the area can match our skills and the high-quality products we use, including a full line of siding products from CertainTeed and Mastic. Call us today at (973) 531-4225 to schedule a FREE in-home consultation, where we can help you choose the products that meet your needs and provide a complete siding estimate.
